The Future of CBD is All About Distribution Positioning (NEPT, RLBD, CRON, YCBD)

According to a recent report from, the global CBD market is expected to grow to $ 13.4 billion by 2028, a CAGR of over 21% from 2021 to 2028, making it one of the most explosive fast-growing Markets in industrialized countries makes global economy.

“The growing awareness of the health benefits of cannabidiol (CBD), changing consumer attitudes and attitudes towards CBD products are some of the key factors driving demand for these products. In addition, increasing demand for cannabidiol from various end-user industries such as food and beverages, personal care and cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals is expected to trigger market growth. “

However, the distribution model for CBD is also likely to play a huge role in fueling this growth curve as it develops and we move towards increased participation by mainstream consumers. This could even shift the endemic sales model into space, bringing in key new endpoints like convenience stores, large retailers, and mainstream grocers as standard retail-level participants.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting stories in the CBD space including: Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ: NEPT), Real Brands Inc (OTCMKTS: RLBD), Cronos Group Inc (NASDAQ: CRON), and cbdMD Inc (NYSEAMERICAN: YCBD).

Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ: NEPT) sees itself as a company that operates as a company for health and wellness products. The company operates in two segments, nutraceutical and cannabis. The Nutraceutical segment offers turnkey solutions such as raw material procurement, formulation, quality control and quality assurance for omega-3 and hemp ingredients in a variety of delivery forms including softgels, capsules and liquids.

The cannabis segment offers extraction and purification services from cannabis and hemp biomass. The company also provides formulation and manufacturing solutions for value-adding product forms such as tinctures, sprays, topicals, steamed products, edibles and beverages.

Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ: NEPT) announced that it has launched three new Mood Ring branded cannabis products, including the first branded flower product, in the province of British Columbia.

“I am excited to announce these exciting new products under the Mood Ring brand in British Columbia, including our first branded floral product,” said Michael Cammarata, chief executive officer and president of Neptune. “In less than a year, we have transformed our cannabis business from a slow-growing, low-margin extraction business to a high-growth, high-margin CPG business with two exciting new cannabis brands, Mood Ring and PanHash. Both brands are already well represented in more than 80% of the legal Canadian cannabis market. “

The stock has suffered a bit lately, with NEPT stocks having taken a plunge recently, down about -8% over the past week. The shares in the stock have risen over the past month, up about 8% over that time due to strong overall action.

Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ: NEPT) had sales of $ 3.3 million, according to the company’s latest quarterly financial report. That adds up to a sequential growth rate of -88.4% compared to the previous quarter. In addition, the company has a solid balance sheet with cash well in excess of current liabilities ($ 32.2 million versus $ 19.1 million).

Real Brands Inc (OTCMKTS: RLBD) is nearly a quarter owned by Turning Point Brands, Inc. (NYSE: TPB), a third owned multibillion dollar hedge fund with a legitimate interest in helping TPB and its primary interests and partners secure the funding it needs on strong investor friendly terms. That’s a big advantage.

It should also be noted that TPB is increasingly moving in the direction of a model that ties in with the breakout potential of the connection between CBD and convenience stores – new territory, but extremely attractive terrain.

Real Brands Inc (OTCMKTS: RLBD) is a bulk supplier to TPB, a NYSE-listed billion dollar company. RLBD supplies TPB with CBD oils and isolates in quantities that are then used in TPB products. Turning Point has more than 250,000 sales outlets with leading brands such as Zig-Zag®, Stoker’s® and Beech Nut®.

As TPB’s model may move more aggressively towards C-store sales, this may position RLBD in a leadership role as the cannabis and CBD market inevitably matures into increasingly mainstream sales models – i.e. when these products are exclusively from head shops and Pharmacies in the primary consumer distribution system that defines the developed world economy.

On the recent conference call on Turning Point’s results, Graham Purdy, Chief Operating Officer said, “We continue to lead the growth and penetration of products in convenience stores and expand our presence on the unmeasured alternative channel, including head shops and pharmacies, where most of this market currently exists and where Zig-Zag is still underrepresented. “

TPB also said it is currently available in 210,000 stores.

The whole point is this: TPB is positioning itself for the cannabis and CBD distribution model that may exist in the next corner and has taken clear steps to cement a leadership role in this market, potentially of C-store endpoints is dominated.

Real Brands Inc (OTCMKTS: RLBD) is already positioned as an upstream major supplier in this market positioning, which could position RLBD as the leading company for CBD products in a world where these products suddenly find their end users in convenience stores around the world Country.

Cronos Group Inc (NASDAQ: CRON) sees itself as an investment firm in the biopharmaceutical sector with a strong focus on medical marijuana and cannabis-related research and products. In short, the company intends to invest in other companies that are either licensed or actively seeking a license to manufacture medical marijuana under the Canadian Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR).

The company typically invests in companies based in Canada. The company is primarily an equity investor and can also advance debt capital if necessary. It seeks to make minority holdings with appropriate governance and shareholder rights. The company aims to be represented on the board of directors commensurate with the size of the investment, but does not require any control.

Cronos Group Inc (NASDAQ: CRON) recently announced, along with PharmaCann Inc, that the two companies have entered into an agreement whereby a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cronos Group has acquired an option to acquire approximately 10.5% of the shares in PharmaCann a completely diluted base. The exercise of the option will be based on a variety of factors, including U.S. cannabis legalization status, as well as regulatory approvals, including in the states in which PharmaCann operates, which may be required if exercised.

“Our US growth strategy is focused on generating long-term shareholder value by building a world-class brand and intellectual property portfolio and positioning to leverage our products in the US market through investments and opportunities with US executives who share our vision and our commitment to responsible behavior shares the distribution of disruptive cannabinoid products that improve people’s lives, ”said Kurt Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cronos Group. “We were attracted to PharmaCann as an investment because of their disciplined capital allocation, strong track record, and compelling presence in licensed manufacturing and retail. Additionally, we are excited to partner with PharmaCann because of our shared commitment to improve product quality and consistency through science and world-class operations and manufacturing. “

The stock has suffered a bit lately, with CRON stock taking a plunge recently, down about -5% over the past week.

Cronos Group Inc (NASDAQ: CRON) posted total revenue of $ 16 million in its most recently released quarterly financial data – a figure that represents a 40.8% revenue growth rate compared to last year data in like-for-like terms . In addition, the company has a solid balance sheet with cash well in excess of current liabilities ($ 1.6 billion versus $ 380.4 million).

cbdMD Inc (NYSEAMERICAN: YCBD) announces itself as a company that manufactures and sells various cannibidiol (CBD) products. It owns and operates the hemp-based consumer CBD brand, cbdMD. The company’s product categories include CBD tinctures, capsules, gummies, bath bombs, topical creams, and animal treats and oils. It also offers CBD products for pets under the brand name Paw CBD.

The company sells its products through an e-commerce website, wholesalers, and various brick and mortar retailers in the United States.

cbdMD Inc (NYSEAMERICAN: YCBD) recently announced that its recently formed subsidiary, cbdMD Therapeutics, has partnered with researchers from the Veterinary Program at Colorado State University (CSU) to study the effects of its patent-pending, proprietary cannabinoid, branded cbdMD, blend in dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.

“It has been estimated that one in five dogs will be diagnosed with osteoarthritis at some point in their life. In nearly 1 billion dogs worldwide and over 75 million in the US, osteoarthritis affects millions of our loved ones. Paw CBD is committed to providing products that can improve the quality of life for our pets and relieve joint discomfort for the millions of pets who suffer from the disease. Our partnership with CSU will serve as the basis for future work investigating the clinical effects of our proprietary broad spectrum cannabinoid blend on pain and mobility in our pets, ”said Martin Sumichrast, Chairman and Co-CEO of cbdMD, Inc.

While this is a clear factor, it has been incorporated into a trading tape that features quite a dominant offering, which was not the type of action that YCBD shareholders really want to see. Overall, the shares of the stock have fallen by around -5% in the last five days with an above-average trading volume. All in all, not a particularly friendly band, but one that can ultimately open up some new possibilities. The shares of the stock have risen over the past month and have gained around 4% over that time due to strong overall action.

cbdMD Inc (NYSEAMERICAN: YCBD) posted total revenue of $ 11.8 million in the company’s most recently released quarterly financial data – a figure that represents a 25.5% revenue growth rate compared to last year’s data on comparable terms. In addition, the company has a solid balance sheet with cash well in excess of current liabilities ($ 24.7 million versus $ 6.9 million).

We include products that we believe will be useful to our readers. If you buy from links on this page, we may earn a small commission. Here is our process.

Applying cannabidiol (CBD) oil to a painful area or taking it orally can help relieve neuropathic pain. However, more research is needed to determine the safety and effectiveness of CBD products.

Is CBD Legal?? Hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC are legal at the federal level, but are still illegal under some state laws. On the other hand, cannabis-derived CBD products are illegal nationwide, but legal under some state laws. Check local laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved any over-the-counter CBD products that may be inaccurately labeled.

Neuropathy causes chronic pain due to damaged nerves. It can be excruciating, and sometimes medication prescribed by the doctor may not provide adequate pain relief. Some people may be looking for alternative remedies, including CBD oil.

CBD oil comes from the cannabis plant. CBD products usually don’t contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the ingredient that causes the high that people associate with cannabis. When a product contains THC, the levels are generally very low.

Researchers are studying the effectiveness of CBD oil on many conditions, including chronic pain. Research continues into how safe CBD products are.

It can be difficult for individuals to choose a safe CBD oil product due to the lack of uniform government regulation. Some studies show that certain products are not properly labeled and may contain unexpected ingredients or amounts.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the safety, effectiveness, or quality of over-the-counter CBD products.

However, to protect a person’s health, they can take action against CBD companies that make unsubstantiated health claims.

Neuropathy is a chronic pain disorder. A person with neuropathy has damaged nerves.

Damaged nerves can occur after a physically traumatic incident or under a variety of conditions, such as:

Sometimes doctors cannot determine why a person has neuropathy, but they can suggest different treatment options.

When a person develops neuropathy due to treatable conditions such as diabetes, chronic alcohol abuse disorder, or nutritional deficiencies, the doctor tries to control the condition first.

People with chronic neuropathic pain can benefit from consulting a pain specialist when simple pain relievers don’t work.

Doctors can prescribe medications such as:

Sometimes treatments in current guidelines do not provide adequate pain relief, and a person may prefer to study CBD oil for neuropathy.

In a small 2020 study, researchers randomized 29 people with neuropathy to receive CBD oil or a placebo.

The participants in the CBD oil group tolerated the product well and had a statistically significant reduction in pain compared to the placebo group.

While these results seem promising, researchers will need to conduct further studies on a larger population to confirm these results.

People with neuropathy claim that several cannabis products, including inhaled cannabis herb, sprays, and tablets, are effective.

However, there is still a lack of good evidence that a CBD product works for chronic neuropathic pain.

Before using CBD oil products, a person should speak to a doctor as some products can interfere with or interact with other drugs.

Certain CDB products can also be unsafe and cause undesirable side effects.

Doctors can help individuals choose safer products, but cannot guarantee the effectiveness of CBD products for neuropathy. By discussing the use of CBD with a doctor, a person can be monitored for possible side effects.

If a person with neuropathy is looking for alternative treatments, a doctor can help them find a more suitable option. By discussing the therapeutic goals and perceived benefits of using CBD oil, clinicians can help set appropriate pain relief goals and set realistic expectations.

While many people with neuropathy explore the use of CBD products, there is a lack of evidence of their effectiveness.

Certain CBD products, including CBD oils, are not regulated. Products obtained from unlicensed sources may contain pollutants or different amounts of CBD and THC than the labels suggest.

People with neuropathy who feel they are not getting adequate pain relief from conventional therapies should speak to their doctor.

A person must tell their doctor if they are taking CBD products to monitor them for possible signs of toxicity, side effects, and effectiveness.

Hemp-Growing CBD Oil Business Model Is Challenging

Lyda helped set up the hemp grower Healthy Harvesting LLC with its line of CBD products under the HempOfy label. Most of their hemp is handled by hand under his direction. In 2020, they added 6 acres, enough to keep nine workers weeding, pruning, fertilizing and harvesting for weeks.

The harvest on its 6 hectares begins at the end of August and lasts almost three months. Workers cut the branches of the plants by hand, leaving a lonely stem in the ground. Then they wipe off the individual leaves and flowers by hand, which are placed on racks in one of six air-conditioned trailers at 60 degrees F with the dehumidifier running.

After three days of drying, the plant material is ready for processing, which is done by Healthy Harvest itself. Nevertheless, plant material from 2020 was still processed in the summer of 2021. There are often bottlenecks in processing. Lyda’s operation can only produce about 4 gallons of oil per day, which is derived from about 300 pounds of biomass.

Like Lyda, Adam Kline understood that Indiana’s Heartland Harvest had to process the hemp itself to tap existing margins for the company to pay off.

“Pricing is like this for two main reasons,” says Adam Kline. “First, a little oil is enough; and second, the rules about what hemp can be used for have been slow to evolve.” The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet enacted regulations on the various uses and sales of CBD oil products.

For example, the lack of regulation and oversight has prevented the wider adoption of CBD oil in food and beverages. Heartland Harvest is working on formulations of water-soluble CBD that could be added to countless beverages such as coffee, water or beer.

“There is almost no competition in the beverage sector,” says Adam Kline. “Water-soluble CBD is released quickly and the targeted effect occurs faster.” According to a 2019 Gallup poll, one in seven Americans uses CBD as an over-the-counter treatment for pain, anxiety, or sleep problems. There are thousands of positive anecdotes about CBD, but few, if any, definitive scientific studies to back up the claims.

Originally, the Klines plan was to grow hemp, process the oil, and supply so-called “white label” oil in bulk to other companies and retailers who would then sell under their own label. While they can still do this, they are also preparing to make CBD oil products – for food, beverage, and pet products – under their own label.

“The oils have gotten a bit industrial,” says Adam Kline. “For us this is not necessarily a volume game. We would like to exclude some middlemen in order to get a more attractive price.”

In any case, there are currently more CBD oil than buyers, Adam Kline and Lyda agree. “It’s definitely a buyer’s market,” says Adam Kline.

North Carolina-based Lyda sees her business in continuing to make oil tinctures along with smokable hemp flowers from hemp plants grown indoors. “CBD oil sells (prices were between $ 700 and $ 1,200 a liter at the time this was written) when you have a good product,” he says. “Just not as fast as the industry would like it to be.”

Unsurprisingly, in a young, semi-unregulated market, growers like Lyda and Kline want value-added products.

“It’s as if a tomato grower produces the tomato, processes it into ketchup himself, and then markets the ketchup in a store to get shelf space,” says Lyda. “This is how you have to do it with hemp now.”

Demand now and in the future

In 2018, 3,500 licenses for hemp cultivation were issued nationwide on around 80,000 hectares. Although the harvest was not fully legalized until the following year, pilot programs were in place in numerous states. The next year, with legalization, there were 19,000 licensed growers planting hemp on 320,000 acres across the country.

“The market was hot,” said Eric Steenstra, a long-time industry veteran and president of Vote Hemp, a national political advocacy group. “The vast majority of farmers grew biomass for $ 3.50 to $ 4 a pound.”

Instead of pursuing full legalization of the USDA with regulations on labeling, marketing and handling of the plants, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised red flags or simply delayed the provision of guidelines on cannabidiol (CBD) products. Their ramblings prevented wholesalers and grocery chains from stocking these products.

The combination of thousands of new growers in the market with fewer than expected outlets for product created a “perfect storm” to cool the market down, explains Steenstra. Biomass prices dropped to 50 to 75 cents per pound. Adding to the dismay, many growers decided, on the basis of speculation, to grow hemp without signing a buyer.

There are 14,000 licensed producers in 2021, but according to Steenstra there are still processors and producers sitting on oil and biomass from last year and even from 2019.

However, CBD oil isn’t the only product made from hemp. After all, the cultivation of hemp as fiber hemp was once common in the United States, especially for use in ropes during World War II. In addition, the hemp seed itself is used as a grain like most others. There are already breeders in the US who produce cannabis seeds for $ 1.15 per pound with an average yield of 700 to 800 pounds per acre, says Steenstra.

BMW and other companies already use hemp fiber in dashboards and other composites in vehicles.
