Here’s How Tiffany Haddish, 41, Revamped Her Fitness Routine

Published

on

  • Tiffany Haddish is feeling stronger than ever after losing more than 40 pounds during quarantine.
  • The 41-year-old comedian and actress shared her top fitness tips with Women’s Health, from the workouts she loves to her favorite healthy foods.
  • Your biggest souvenir? Consistency equals result.

For Tiffany Haddish, quarantine didn’t just mean being stuck inside. The 41-year-old after-party star used her time at home to completely overhaul her fitness routine – and has been making progress ever since. Now, after losing over 40 pounds, she continues to experiment with the exercises and foods that work best for her (and lead her best life, of course).

Tiffany recently sat down with Women’s Health to talk about everything related to fitness, from her weight loss to the snacks she loves. First she says: “I did a lot, then I did nothing.” After making many changes immediately, Tiffany noticed that her weight began to fluctuate when she wasn’t following her new fitness routine.

When she saw the results she wanted, Tiffany said she was thinking, “I don’t have to work so hard anymore.” But then, later, she realized, “Why can’t I close my pants? What’s wrong?” That’s when she knew she had to stick to her new schedule. “You have to keep working,” she explains.

“Learning to really take your time and plan time for it was pretty amazing,” she adds. As for training, Tiffany still trains a lot at home. But she goes to the gym for about an hour and a half two days a week. “I do a lot of weights, like squats and stuff,” she says.

Battle ropes are another place to go, as are classes – Tiffany takes everything, including kickboxing, barre, HIIT, and even aerial yoga. “In the end, I’ll either take two classes or I’ll do an hour of weights and then a class and I’ll get out of there,” she says.

“I’m so glad the world opened up because you meet new people and make friends,” said Tiffany of her time at the gym.

Tiffany uses her virtual reality glasses when she wants to sweat at home. “There’s this app called Supernatural in there,” she explains. “It feels like you’re playing a game … but you’re getting a full body workout. I take that thing off after 15 minutes and I’m dripping.”

She also uses an electric muscle stimulator while watching her favorite shows. Other days it’s all about exercise: “My favorite is to just take 15 minutes and just do some exercise,” says Tiffany. This can mean dancing around, holding a board, or doing a few situps, crunches, or squats (or a mix!)

As for her diet, Tiffany eats protein, vegetables, and plenty of water – about a gallon a day. Breakfast usually consists of an egg or an avocado with pico de gallo. Around noon, Tiffany reaches for a Caesar salad or a bowl of soup. Then, “I have what I want for dinner,” she says.

Sometimes this is steamed vegetables or stir-fries. On other evenings, she conjures up her favorite recipes in her kitchen, from fried chicken to taco bowls. And when it comes to snacks, Tiffany never turns down pickles or almonds – or the Slim Jims and Snickers candy bars as delicacies.

And Tiffany adds vitamins to her diet to improve her diet. The vitafusion ambassador swears by the brand’s Women’s Daily multivitamin, the Gorgeous Hair, Skin & Nails multivitamin and the magnesium supplement.

“First of all, it tastes delicious,” says Tiffany. “Second, my knees don’t bother me like they used to.”

Healthy eating is important to Tiffany as she grew up in a food desert. “I’m staying in South Central Los Angeles and there aren’t a lot of options,” she says. “It’s really difficult to eat healthily there.”

Vitafusion is now partnering with WhyHunger to raise donations of up to US $ 100,000 to transform communities by improving access to healthy food. “You are doing so much great things in the community,” added Tiffany. “I love it.”

7 healthy food trends you’ll see in 2022

Published

on

With many of us still working from home for the past year, we checked out TikTok to spice up our food life and try everything from baked feta noodles to four-quadrant tortilla wraps. When the world opens up again, we are no longer so dependent on what we can conjure up in our home kitchen. What does this mean for healthy eating trends in the coming year? Let’s read the tea leaves.

1. Sober curiosity goes all-in

This trend has been picking up for a number of years and has seen a resurgence thanks to the super-alcoholic pandemic that drove alcohol consumption to worrying levels. To raise awareness of drinking too much, we witnessed the rise of sober October and dry January. The difference to the latest non-alcoholic or zero-proof offerings is that they’re well made and feel just as delicious as real stuff – just without a hangover.

Elva Ramirez, author of Zero Proof: 90 Non-Alcoholic Recipes for Mindful Drinking, suggests that the new wave of sober curiosity is coming from health-conscious consumers who like to have plenty of options. “The popularity of Zero Proof comes from moderate drinkers who want healthy alternatives but can still drink alcohol … Consumers love the ritual of a well-made drink but are aware of how much alcohol they drink each week,” says Ramírez.

People looking to enjoy a warming drink on a cold winter night can grab a sip of Three Spirit’s Nightcap, a “soothing, woody” blend of maple syrup, hops, turmeric and valerian root. Or maybe you want to spice up one of your favorite holiday recipes, like bourbon cake or rum balls, without the liquor. Now you can with zero-proof versions of vodka, rum, gin, and even tequila from CleanCo, a chef-run brand based out of England. With no definite end to the pandemic in sight, all uplifting options are welcome.

2. No more functional drinks

The pandemic has increased our interest in wellness overall, and drinks are a quick and easy way to add healthy ingredients to your day. This is why so many of us open bottles and cans of functional beverages that promise benefits that range from gut health to better sleep to happier prospects. Functional foods and beverages sales rose 9.4% last year and are expected to increase in 2022 as people return to work and school.

While traditional soda sales have plummeted, prebiotic sodas from brands like Poppi, Gist, and Olipop are bubbling up. These sparkling tonics come in nostalgic flavors like root beer, cola, and grape, and offer something that many of us miss out on – fiber. Other functional beverages, like the fast-growing Sunwink, use adaptogens and herbs in their sparkling tonics to provide benefits like immune support and stress relief.

3. Reducedarianism

Plant-based options have exploded in the past few years, which we covered earlier. What is new is that so many Americans want to buy and use these products even though they are not vegan. And the alternative meats are getting better, healthier, and more like the protein they’re trying to replace. We recently tried Jack and Annie’s jackfruit-based nuggets, which have a much more chicken-like consistency than the soy or wheat gluten options we’ve had in the past. You’ll also see Pea Protein Nuggets from Today in the coming year.

The International Food Information Council (IFIC) recently found that a whopping two-thirds of Americans report eating plant-based meat alternatives. While flexitarianism – mainly the consumption of plants with the occasional inclusion of meat, eggs and dairy products – has been popular in recent years, reduction tarism differs in that it focuses on gradually reducing the consumption of animal products. And grocery brands will provide plenty of herbal products to fill those spaces. Look for new options for plant-based cheeses, raised hummus, fortified beans, and more.

The use of the original fruit vinegar, apple cider vinegar (ACV) as a health tonic, has seen explosive growth in recent years. Touted for helping with weight loss and stabilizing blood sugar, ACV has been shown in beverages as well as gummy supplements and capsules. Now that consumers are familiar with the concept of using vinegar as an ingredient, we are seeing more fruity options on the market.

Since one of the disadvantages of drinking ACV directly is that the acid it contains can attack tooth enamel, consumers have found other ways to include vinegar in their diet, such as: They add a bright, interesting touch to everything you add and come in bottles beautiful enough to display on your kitchen counter. Some we like are Brightland’s citrus parasol vinegar and Acid League’s vibrant mango jalapeno vinegar.

If 2020 forced us to become home cooks, 2021 made us more creative with our newly discovered cooking skills. And the next kitchen we’ll tackle is South American. The Spice House saw a 50% increase in sales of its ground aji amarillo spice this year. Aji-amarillo chillies give Peruvian dishes such as ceviche and huancaina sauce, which is typically served over potatoes and hard-boiled eggs, medium heat, fruitiness. Less experienced cooks can sprinkle it over scrambled eggs for a heightened brunch. You can find these orange-colored peppers, which give food a sun-yellow color, in dried form as well as canned, ground or as a paste.

Just like TikTok introduced Birria tacos to Americans, social media treats South American favorites like empanadas the same way. Expect to see these hand-held meat and vegetable filled baked goods in more restaurants and even at meal set delivery services like Hello Fresh.

With the climate change movement finally gaining traction, consumers are looking for actionable steps they can take to tackle climate change while they are eating their afternoon snack. Food waste in this country is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions from nearly 33 million cars. Both new and established brands will focus on the fight against food waste in the coming year.

Two Good (a Danone product) adds a new line of products called Good Save that uses fruit that would otherwise have been thrown away. A seal is placed on the packaging, telling consumers that the product in the cup would have been wasted had it not ended up in the yogurt. Upcycling sweet potatoes are the main ingredient in Spudsy, a range of crispy snacks that save around 15,000 ugly sweet potatoes with each truck load of their sweet potato puffs and fries.

Beef Snacks, which sells nutritious skinned and skinned dried fruit, saved over 120,000 pounds of edible fruit skins from landfill last year and plans to divert £ 1 million next year. Of the nearly 40 million tons of food wasted each year, fruits and vegetables make up 30 to 40%. By keeping the peel of the dried kiwi fruit, watermelon and pear, beef creates zero waste snacks. And the newly launched Otherworld makes plant-based pancake and waffle mixes from cauliflower, beetroot, bananas, apples, and more that would have been dumped in a landfill.

7th Brain support foods

New products, from bars to powders, are offered to consumers with the promise of promoting healthy brains. TODAY employee Maria Shriver and son Patrick Schwarzenegger’s new company, MOSH, have developed a range of bars with brain-supporting vitamins, adaptogens and grass-fed proteins. A portion of the proceeds from the bars will be donated to the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, which Maria founded to fund brain research on women who make up two-thirds of Alzheimer’s patients. Schwarzenegger says MOSH will expand the brand’s portfolio in the coming years.

Memore, a powdered dietary supplement developed by the North Carolina Food Innovation Lab in partnership with NC State University, leverages the science and research behind the MIND diet, which has been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by up to 54%. Memore is made from plant-based ingredients with brain-supporting benefits, including blueberries, beets, spinach, and sweet potatoes. Because Americans don’t get enough of these nutrient-dense foods in their daily diets, a powder – which can be added to smoothies or stirred into a glass of water – is a more efficient way for us to get the benefits of these foods. An aging population means the number of Alzheimer’s sufferers will continue to rise, and since diet has an impact, expect more brain food to be in sight.

As we are all establishing a new normal in our eating and drinking habits, it’s nice to know that in 2022 we will have plenty of delicious and beneficial foods to help us achieve our wellness goals.
