Where to find plant-based and vegan food in the Brockton area

BROCKTON – As plant-based foods grow in popularity across the country, with concerns about animal rights, health benefits, and the desire to reduce carbon emissions, you may be wondering where to get vegetarian delights in the Brockton area.

While plant-based options can be scarce south of Boston, restaurants in the Brockton area that have opted for animal-free foods have worked hard to create dishes that vegans and meat-eaters will enjoy.

Brockton

Cabo Vegan – Brockton-based vegan caterer Cabo Vegan will soon open a physical location at 9 Franklin St. in Brockton. Your new location will be where the old Colonial Spa Bar used to be.

The Cape Verdean small business is owned by Tome Andrade and his wife Valery Teixeira. The couple previously told The Enterprise that they went vegan for the first time because Andrade had health problems and wanted a healthier lifestyle, and because Teixeira wanted to avoid meat altogether.

According to the spouses, many Cape Verdean dishes are almost vegan from the outset. They started their business in June last year after a Facebook post on their page featuring a vegan lobster and tuna bun went viral.

Cabo Vegan is known for its traditional, Cape Verdean and vegan dishes such as chuna snack rolls, pastel chalks, katxupa and djagacida de fog.

The farmer’s daughter – The Farmer’s Daughter has always had vegan options – even before it was trendy, said owner Chandra Gouldrup.

“I grew up vegetarian. So it’s not a fad for me,” she said. “A big part of my menu development has been to incorporate things that I thought were lacking in options.”

For a vegetarian and consistently vegan family, Gouldrup said eating in the restaurant was a challenge – especially before the last decade when plant-based options became more common.

“Unless you went to a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, there really weren’t any options,” she said. “So you ended up ordering the pages on the menu.”

When Gouldrup opened her first location in Easton in 2013, she made a point of creating some plant-based dishes that were fully composed and delicious on their own – like any of her other dishes.

The Farmer’s Daughter features homemade vegetarian burgers and sausages, plant-based tacos and French toast, a hurricane omelette, and avocado toast. Everything is made with local produce, said Gouldrup, and is enjoyed by both vegans and meat eaters.

“Ultimately, you just want to serve good food,” she says.

Bridge water

Restoration coffee – With locations in Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and Whitman, Restoration Coffee is a great place to grab a quick, plant-based bite in the Brockton area.

Matt Wood, owner of the local coffeeshop chain, said he has had plant-based options since it opened in Whitman three years ago.

Restoration Coffee in Bridgewater and East Bridgewater makes their signature Courtney Latte with maple syrup, cinnamon, oat milk and espresso.

“Myself and most of my family are gluten and dairy free,” he said. “… When we first opened, I wanted it to be a place where my family could actually go out to eat and be safe due to food intolerance.”

All of Restoration Coffee’s syrups are vegan, Wood said, and their signature lattes are all vegan by default because they’re made with oat milk – which has been a popular ingredient lately.

The café also has popular vegan bagels, such as the garden bagel with vegan chive cream cheese, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers and vegetables and the Sunrise bagel with vegan cream cheese and pesto, vegetables and tomatoes.

Wood said his family are used to ordering meals with no ingredients, which the dish often doesn’t do as well. He said he think vegans and non-vegans alike appreciate having plant-based options.

“These are really good sandwiches, not a cut-up meal,” he said.

Restoration Coffee in Bridgewater and East Bridgewater makes a Mediterranean toast with hummus, vegetables, tomatoes, cucumber, and olive tapenade.

Summer street cafe – Karlyn Bourne, owner of Summer Street Cafe, said when she first opened in January 2020 she didn’t have vegan options. But just a few months after it opened, people started requesting them, so she added a few to her menu.

Summer Street Cafe has a tofu scrambled egg – similar to scrambled eggs, buffalo tempeh – which she said is her most popular vegan option, vegan waffles and french toast, spring rolls, a chickpea “tuna” sandwich, and a falafel -Citizens.

In addition, all of their syrups are vegan, so their coffees can also be made vegan.

“People who are vegans or vegetarians are just glad they have a place to go. While it’s a limited option, they can have something to choose from,” she said.

Raynham

Sweet and earthy – Melody West, co-owner of Sweet and Earthy, said the local chain has always had vegan options as it used a plant-based diet for medicinal reasons when it opened its first location in Raynham in 2019.

When West opened her first location, she said she was having a hard time finding vegan food, so she decided to get creative.

“I wanted something that doesn’t matter what you are, you’ll still enjoy it. It’s just good for you in every way, ”she said.

So West set out to create plant-based smoothies like their caramel apple pie with agave, almond milk, apple, almond butter, cinnamon, caramel, dates, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla.

Most of their smoothies are vegan, from chocolate espresso flavor to green monster and tropical flavor. All of their juices are vegan too.

Sweet and Earthy also offers plant-based toast such as an avocado toast with avocado, chia seeds, shallots, and spinach, and a hummus toast with cucumber, red onion, tomato, oil, and vinegar.

West’s most popular vegan product is their protein acai bowl with acai, agave, almond milk, banana, blueberry, peanut butter, strawberry, vanilla protein and vanilla.

“It’s a simple food. I think it’s just the combination of flavors that really sets it apart,” West said.

Because of this, West said, she thinks her plant-based food is popular with vegans and non-vegans alike. You don’t want a plant-based food, just something tasty.

“My mission is to make sure people know you can have so much more than you expected and it will taste better than you imagined,” she said.

Farm2Cup juicer – Farm2Cup Juicery owner Erin Washington said her business has been plant-based since it opened in September 2017.

While she does have meats and cheeses available for people who want to add to their dishes, she said that everything on the menu is either vegan or can be made vegan.

The Farm2Cup Juicery in Raynham has a popular plant-based dirty espresso smoothie made with banana, peanut butter, espresso powder, and almond milk.

“The reason I opened up is because you really couldn’t find something like that, and I struggled with going vegan at the time just to find healthy options,” she said.

Washington said their plant-based beach babe juice with apple, cucumber, pineapple, blueberry, and lemon, and their dirty espresso smoothie with banana, peanut butter, espresso powder, and almond milk are among their favorite drinks.

But people also love their plant-based smoothie bowls, sandwiches, and soups, including a vegan cheeseburger soup and a vegan caprese panini.

The Farm2Cup Juicery in Raynham has a popular acai smoothie bowl.

Everything she makes is made from local products that she gets at farmers’ markets.

“I think people are drawn to us because it’s healthy. They probably feel better eating our things, ”she said. “Everything is freshly prepared, made to order. I think people like to know what’s in their drink. “

West Bridgewater

Lawadessa Middle Eastern Restaurant – Lawadessa is one of the few restaurants in the area with plant-based options that is also open for dinner. The Lawadessa offers vegan dishes from the Middle East.

In the Lebanese-oriented restaurant, plant-based eaters will find traditional hummus, moussaka, fattoush and many types of falafel wraps, salads and burgers.

Stoughton

Ruk Mae Thai Food – Ruk Mae Thai Food offers low-sodium, health-conscious Thai food, much of which is gluten-free, vegan or prepared. There you will find Thai and East Asian staples such as hot and sour soup, Thai curries and Pad Thai.

When we use food to create hormonal balance instead of dieting, amazing things happen to our health.

When it comes to food, here in North America and in all of the First World countries we have choices – an overwhelming variety.

Aside from the rush for toilet paper over the past year, how many times have you gone to the grocery store and seen empty shelves? It never happens.

Some call it a blessing, some blame it on their poor food choices.

Regardless of where you sit on this food spectrum, we know for sure that we should be one of the healthiest nations on earth. But we are not. As a wealthy First World country, we have an abundance of food, but the vast majority of the population is nutritionally starved. One wonders how that can happen. It all depends on the choice.

Many diseases such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, digestive problems and leaky gut are all referred to as lifestyle diseases today. Why? Because the lifestyle that the individual has chosen over time is what caused the disease.

It would therefore seem logical that if our decisions could have a negative outcome, it would seem reasonable that they could elicit a positive response as well. And there is science to back it up.

A study published on the NCBI website by the National Library of Medicine, National Institute of Health, shows how diet and lifestyle changes are key to reversing these lifestyle ailments and restoring general health.

It’s a simple concept that requires a little organization and preparation to get started, but the benefits are well worth it.

Blood sugar levels become normal, hormones are balanced, menopausal symptoms are minimized or eliminated, inflammation is reduced, joint pain is relieved, digestion is improved, cholesterol and blood pressure are normalized, the immune system is improved, it could help reverse some diseases, the Metabolism will turn on and stay on and the body will release stored fat and burn it for energy.
