Men of the North founder runs for FSIN vice chief position

When Christopher Merasty started Men of the North, a support group for men in northern Saskatchewan, he focused on creating a space for men in the area to empower themselves.

Merasty said he is taking his passion for community work to the next level by running for the position of fourth vice chief with the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN).

“Developing a more holistic support system for men – giving them a sense of belonging and a positive, healthy approach to the desire for change and helping them on their healing path. I would like to take that forward, ”said Merasty.

“I’m looking at this and how I can use resources to drive change in our communities by communicating and connecting with social programming organizations across Saskatchewan.”

After founding Men of the North, Merasty helped organize a suicide prevention walk from La Ronge to Regina, culminating in a 44-day fast by Métis musician Tristen Durocher in Wascana Park in Regina.

Saskatchewan introduced suicide prevention law as a result of the Cumberland MLA endorsement of Doyle Vermette, Durocher, and Merasty.

Since then, Merasty has focused on a variety of community-based initiatives to improve conditions for northerners and sits on the board of the Northern Sports, Culture and Recreation District (NSRDC).

Merasty said his holistic approach to community development would help address issues such as suicide, addiction, gangs and domestic violence in the Saskatchewan First Nations.

“I’m opening the conversation to a more meaningful dialogue. I take a holistic approach to many problems in our communities, ”said Merasty.

“Having someone like me in a leadership position would definitely be the stronger voice that many of our community members and the leadership in our communities need.”

His campaign promises to revitalize First Nations communities, advocate mental health and addiction support, and implement a regional approach to problem solving.

Merasty said his focus is on “promoting, practicing and initiating” the way of life, language, culture and empowerment of First Nations youth.

Merasty aims to develop an Action Plan for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Men and Boys, which complements the Action Plans for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

“In recent years, I have shown through my actions that health and healing are essential to our people’s healing journey through both the men of the north and through walking with our angels,” said Merasty.

“As the founders of Men of the North, a men’s healing group, we have helped our people know that they are not alone in their struggles and that they are celebrating their successes.

“With respect for the struggles that organizations for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls have had and the progress they have made – we can work together to raise awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous men and boys.”

Merasty said a key to improving conditions for the First Nations is having a fair share of the wood and minerals extracted from treaty land.

“We should work with the many industries and resource development firms and firms – so that both businesses and communities benefit from the resources they are either mining or mining in these contracting states,” Merasty said.

Merasty comes from the Flying Dust First Nation and lives in La Ronge. He works as an underground machine operator at Cameco’s Cigar Lake Mine.

“It’s not new to me,” says Merasty.

“Because I believe that balance is very important when it comes to our people’s healing process. My passion for a stronger, healthier future for our communities will help me listen to your concerns and be your voice. “

Mojo, a men’s sexual health startup that’s pushing therapy not pills, gets $4.4M seed – TechCrunch

In the past few years, a number of sexual health startups have sprung up to offer men discreet help with the uncomfortable problem of erectile dysfunction. Companies like Numan and Roman. But “help” in this context usually means getting medicines like Viagra more easily.

The British startup Mojo is taking a different approach. A subscription service has been developed to support men’s sexual wellbeing by providing direct access to specialized therapies – in collaboration with professional psychotherapists to offer online courses that are considered a longer-term solution to male sexual health problems, rather than just some too popping blue pills.

This approach means that Mojo is within a broader digital health trend where the smartphone in the pocket of app makers is used to provide targeted, non-pharmaceutical support – be it for insomnia, dietary needs, musculoskeletal disorders, mental health or even sexual wellbeing.
