Children collapse in school after vaping fake cannabis oil laced with Spice for £10 a bottle

Several children were hospitalized after they collapsed at school after vaping counterfeit cannabis oil containing the dangerous drug spice.

Children as young as 12 are attacked by drug dealers on social media platforms like Snapchat, experts warn.

There have been several reports of students in the area collapsing and hospitalized after accidentally vaping the potentially deadly synthetic drug.

Researchers for the Greater Manchester Testing and Research on Emergent and New Drugs Report, published this month, were told that 10ml bottles of e-liquids purported to contain THC, the high-causing chemical, are on Snapchat for as little as. would be sold 10 €.

Real cannabis oil products often sell for between £ 40 and £ 60.

However, when two THC e-liquids were tested in connection with the hospitalization of children in Trafford and Bury, neither contained a cannabis product, but both contained synthetic cannabinoids that are used to make spice.

According to the report, a 15-year-old boy from Trafford was hospitalized and once three children were rushed to hospital in an ambulance after they collapsed in a school in Rochdale after vaping alleged cannabis oil.

The headmaster said of the report: “We had to take you to the hospital with blue lights on at the time.

“So I knew when these kids broke down, I knew there was obviously something wrong, and I knew they couldn’t just take something they thought they’d bought in a store that was supposed to be cannabis or something something was. “

Researchers said the oils were “usually bought from social media platforms, with Snapchat usually mentioned”.

A health care manager in Oldham told the report, “There were [an] Increase in recommendations indicating the use of vape.

“We have seen an increase in A&E visitors showing symptoms of ‘vaporizing unknown substance’ which suggest they vaped Spice.”

The report found that cannabis vape consumption among children was still low, but “availability and use” was increasing across the Greater Manchester area.

A specialist nurse who works in northeast Greater Manchester said, “We have seen an increase in vapes over the past 12 months. Vapes that contain THC, synthetic cannabinoids, CBD … young people don’t know or understand what’s in them. but they caused extreme poisoning or collapse.

“They are not big numbers [involving vapes].26 out of 270, but that’s 26 that we hadn’t seen a year earlier. “

There have been some reports of children ages 12 and 13 smoking cannabis vapes, but it has been said that it is most common in 15-16 year olds.

A school principal in Rochdale told the report, “It was the upper age group in secondary school, 9th grade and above, 14-16”. [year-olds] . . .. we found it to be popular in the high end especially because it is not considered cannabis, it is not considered smoking. “

In 2019, more than a dozen children in schools in Bury, Rochdale and Oldham collapsed after vaping counterfeit cannabis oil containing spices.

Authorities issued a warning after testing oil bottles used by the children.

But the report said the confirmation that the aromatic oils help deter teenagers from trying it out.

One teacher told the report, “The kids at school, if you said they took Spice, they would connect Spice to people they saw in Manchester.

“So, there is what is the word ‘contempt,’ I suppose, that Spice is a drug in itself.

“But actually there was obviously spice in what they were taking. So we worked a lot with the kids to make them understand that what they buy may be connected to other things.”

The GM Trends report said selling cannabis vapes on social media, usually SnapChat, was a “special concern.”

It added, “Young school-age children who appear to be attacked on social media may be less knowledgeable and therefore more prone to mis-sold vapes found in tests that contain spice.”

In his recommendations in the report, there was a need to address the “digital drug markets” and “awareness raising among those working with young people and their families about the increased use of social media apps to sell drugs often targeting young people ”.

A spokesperson for Snap, the company that owns Snapchat, said, “Using Snapchat to buy or sell drugs is strictly against our rules.

“We’re actively searching and banning accounts and search terms related to drug trafficking, and using industry-leading technology to find drug content.

“We also work with organizations like Frank to provide in-app information about the dangers of drugs.

Snapchat is private by default – you have to accept someone before they can message you, and we’re adding extra safeguards for younger users to keep strangers from contacting them.

“There will always be people trying to circumvent our rules, so combating this behavior remains a priority.”

Bev Hughes, d Deputy Mayor for Police, Crime and Criminal Justice, said: “Greater Manchester is leading the way and GM TRENDS research is the first of its kind in the UK. This approach helps us understand drug trends across the metropolitan area and raise awareness of potential risks.

“The report’s recommendations are designed to inform policy-making, protect people and support professionals working with drug users.

“We will continue to work with partners on the recommendations of the report, with targeted measures such as Operation Cranium helping to prevent the use and sale of counterfeit medicines. I get regular updates from GMP and know that officials are working hard to stop the illegal drug sales. “

The Cannabis Renaissance

His stigma seems to be fading fast on Indian soil. From a drug provocateur to an alternative cure for creaky joints, insomnia, anxiety and other urban health disorders, cannabis has finally arrived in a sophisticated avatar packaged in essential oils. It has become a #shelfiegoal2022 to have a healing potion powered by CBD oil to get rid of your health problems. Hemp products have clearly overcome the hump of misgivings and misunderstandings on the alternative medicine bandwagon. The cannabis economy is growing.

The medicinal properties of the plant find specific mention in ancient Vedic literature. The Atharva-Veda describes cannabis as a remedy for many diseases. The Sushruta Samhita, dated between the 3rd and 8th centuries BC. BC, advocated the use of cannabis for phlegm and diarrhea. Yet with our shared perception of ganja on the ghats, clay chillums being passed around in puffs of smoke, and hashish conquering the senses, the country has quietly continued, often with, the “psychoactive” cultivation of hemp, a cousin of marijuana religious and medical accents.

Acceptance of the versatile hemp is finally gaining well-deserved ground as cannabis-powered wellness products are sold online and become best-sellers in the industry. “When we started, we had to explain why wearing a hemp shirt doesn’t get you high. Today, people of all generations buy our products and choose to heal themselves holistically through a natural source,” says Yash Kotak, co-founder of Mumbai-based BOHECO Bombay Hemp Company.

Cannabis offers therapeutic healing and nutrition, and with over 25,000 ways to use this one plant, it’s a solution provided by the most sustainable and eco-friendly resource. “This is definitely just the beginning. We still have many miles to unlock the potential, and with the right kind of R&D practices, the world is at our feet,” says Chirag Tekchandaney, co-founder of BOHECO, adding: “In the last two years, the Income from operations increased by over 25 percent. Before that, we were operating at a three-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 93 percent. The Hemp Fiber and Hemp Seed segments are expected to register substantial CAGRs of 27 percent and 25 percent, respectively, during the forecast period.

The cumulative share of these two segments was 47.6 percent in 2019 and is expected to reach 50.1 percent by 2027. We also export our products to over 10 countries, but most of our D2C audience is from India. Our repeat purchase is highest in this category, with over 43 percent of our target audience coming back to buy more. That says a lot.” This sudden shift has been evident since the lockdowns, leading to more startups in this space. Cannabis has now gained more acceptance, reaching an overtone of “herbal” overtones compared to the source of high it was once labeled as.

There was a time when the arrival at home of a CBD oil-infused supplement freaked out our loved ones. They thought we were on drugs. Now the same people are using it for its many therapeutic purposes. There has been an overall softening of attitude. Nowadays, more players encounter Boomtown. “The growth rate of this industry is directly related to the awareness of the legality, availability and benefits of this plant,” says Richa Jaggi, co-founder of Awshad, which started last year. “I believe this softening of attitudes can be directly linked to the growing popularity of cannabis around the world. Countries like the US and Canada started the cannabis destigmatization movement and funded various research to learn more about it.

They uncovered two things: the plant has various medicinal properties, and its properties were misrepresented,” she adds. Obviously learning is spreading. Loveena Sirohi, Co-Founder and Director of India Hemp Organics based in Bengaluru says: “At IHO, our growth rate has been 200 percent year over year. We have seen a diverse age range of people incorporating hemp and cannabis products into their lifestyle. Today our oldest patient is 94 years old and consumes the Sleep Well CannaBliss oil daily for better sleep.” She adds: “With the outbreak of Covid-19, cannabis-based medicinal oils helped fight a variety of diseases, including Depression and anxiety that increased during lockdown.”

The format and application of the products advertise to a cross-section of the population through oils, balms and creams. “They’re used to treat pain, inflammation, arthritis, pimples, eczema, itchy skin, and more,” says Jaggi, adding, “Cannabis edibles like tinctures and gummies are more geared towards men and women over the age of 18 who are.” suffering from insomnia, stress, anxiety, chronic pain, bowel problems, etc. People suffering from epilepsy or undergoing chemotherapy swear by this product.” alive and well the natural way the right way. But a word of caution: Cannabis leaf falls under a Schedule E-1 drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules of 1945, and any medication containing a Schedule E-1 substance must be taken under medical supervision.

THE HOLY TRUTH

✥ Look for the licensed stamp of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India on the products
✥ Cannabis-infused medicines are safe to use and non-addictive, especially when taken under medical supervision
✥ The expensive labels are due to the difficult supply chain as hemp is mainly grown in Uttarakhand in the foothills of the Himalayas
